Effective Date: July 1, 2025
1. Employee Rights Under the Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA)
Federal Minimum Wage: $7.25/hour (as of 2025)
Chicago Minimum Wage (Effective July 1, 2025): $16.60/hour for employers with 4 or more employees
Overtime Pay: Time and a half (1.5x) for hours over 40 per week
Child Labor: Federal and state restrictions apply
2. Illinois Minimum Wage & Overtime Law
State Minimum Wage: $14.00/hour
Tipped Employees: Must still earn minimum wage after tips
Overtime Pay: Required after 40 hours/week
3. Illinois Paid Leave for All Workers Act (Effective January 1, 2024)
All employees earn at least 40 hours of paid leave annually
Leave may be used for any reason, with prior notice where possible
4. Illinois Wage Payment & Collection Act
Employees must be paid at least semi-monthly
Final wages due by next scheduled payday upon termination
No unauthorized wage deductions allowed
5. Family and Medical Leave Act (FMLA) – Federal
Eligible employees can take up to 12 weeks of unpaid, job-protected leave for:
Birth or adoption of a child
Serious health condition (self or family member)
6. Illinois Workers’ Compensation Law
Covers medical care, wage replacement, and disability
Report injuries within 45 days to be eligible
7. Illinois Human Rights Act – Anti-Discrimination & Harassment
No discrimination based on race, religion, sex, age, disability, sexual orientation, or other protected classes
Sexual harassment is prohibited
File complaints with the Illinois Department of Human Rights (IDHR)
8. Illinois Employee Sick Leave Act
You may use personal sick leave to care for a child, spouse, parent, or other family member
Employers must allow reasonable time off
9. Occupational Safety and Health Act (OSHA) – Federal
Employees are entitled to safe, hazard-free working conditions
You can report unsafe conditions without retaliation

10. Illinois Unemployment Insurance Notice
Eligible employees may apply for unemployment benefits if laid off or terminated

11. Nursing Mothers in the Workplace Act
Employers must provide reasonable break time and a private space (not a bathroom) for expressing breast milk
